The Alces Flight Crew at Supercomputing 2022 (SC22) in Dallas, TX — USA

Hot off the heels of a magnificent time in Dallas, TX at Supercomputing (SC22) the Alces Flight team is packing up to head to Computing Insight UK (CIUK22) in Manchester, UK — December 1 & 2. This year our team is bringing new products and services to our community alongside a new tradition.

Alces Flight supports the Student Cluster Competition Finale

After an online battle the six student cluster teams will converge on Manchester Central to see who will take home the crown for 2022. The Flight Crew will be putting the teams to the test on December 1st starting at 9AM. Past challenges have included work on public cloud, hardware, and even a scavenger hunt. Wonder what we have up our sleeves this time? Head to CIUK to find out!

Flight Solo returns to the Alces Flight portfolio

We are excited to be relaunching our flagship cloud HPC product, Flight Solo, back into the AWS Marketplace as well as expanding its original use thanks to the OpenFlightHPC project and toolsets. As cloud native methodology is taking hold more researchers are looking for a portable solution to their HPC requirements. Flight Solo is back, but this time it is taking on more than just public cloud. Come see how our new subscription and open-source models work! The team will be on hand to discuss all the possibilities, so come ready with your ideas and questions.

Women in HPC (WHPC) launches UK Networking Breakfast

We’re excited to be a part of the first WHPC Networking Breakfast on December 2nd starting at 8:30 AM. A continued part of CIUK’s initiative for increasing diversity and inclusion in HPC, this breakfast compliments the student cluster challenge and poster sessions, as well as the early career work already underway.

Our own Cristin Merritt will be giving a talk entitled “Skills, Diversity + Inclusion — Another Aspect of Sustainability in HPC,” starting at 9:35 AM followed by a panel of WHPC’s UK Chapters and Affiliates. Cristin is currently seeking feedback from the HPC Community on how they view the need for sustainable skills development — which you can contribute your thoughts to now. We look forward to seeing you there.

Alces continues to raise funds for good causes!

We had such a good time giving back at SC22 we will continue our work at CIUK! Drop by our booth, check our our client stories, and help us spend a portion of our conference budget on positive change around the world. To date we’ve raised over £219 towards health and ecology initiatives.

As always we’ll be happy to discuss all our products and managed services packages with you — so if you wish to arrange a meeting prior or during the conference please do not hesitate to get in touch. Look forward to seeing you in Manchester.
